What's especially weird to me is that when I right-click on the file and go to "Get Info", it shows me the time and day I created the file (a few days ago).

I've seen things about recovery software but have also heard that they're scams and will look at all my data.so not sure about that "There aren't any tracked changes in your document." I tried going through Track Changes (Review>All Markup, and Balloons>Show All Revisions Inline, and then clicking "Reject"). I didn't have Mac's Time Machine feature set up (also didn't know that that was a thing before this) I also tried the "Repair" option to open the file. This just gave me 5 pages of random letters, numbers, and symbols (some kind of code?). I tried to open Word and go to File>Open and then select the file and click the "Recover Text" option to open the file. * Open the file with the Text Recovery converter."

I tried going into "Terminal" on my Mac and looking in the TemporaryItems folder. I've also seen File>Manage Document>Recover Unsaved Documents, but I can't find this option on my desktop version, nor the web version I've gone to File>Browse Version History but there are no previous versions It was in the Word app on my MacBook and not uploaded to OneDrive, so no autosave either I did not have AutoRecover turned on (didn't even know what that was, but I turned it on now!) These are a few things to note from what I've been reading online and trying thus far: I hope this is a comprehensive list, but it's been so long I'm not totally sure if I missed something. I've been trying to fix this for more than 4 hours now and get my progress back, and I'm starting to think I'm out of luck, but I thought I'd post on here to see if anyone has ANYTHING I can try. This is a habit for me at this point so I am 10000% sure I had the large majority of my work saved before it froze (i.e., much much more than just the letter "s"). I also want to mention that I am paranoid about losing my work, so I make sure to save every time I make a change. When I reopened, everything I was working on had been deleted, only the letter "s" remained in the file. So, I saved (I think this was my mistake), and closed the file. I opened another Word doc to check if it was a problem with Word or just that one document, and I was able to type on that other document normally. I could scroll but couldn't type anywhere. I was working on an assignment and Word suddenly froze.
